[crafty little me]

A photo album that can hold up to 250 4R pics!!! Going to list it onto the shop soon... watch out for it!
it is perfect for baby pictures
i know it's a bit more 'girly', but i think the black ribbon makes it a little less girl girl?
look at all that possibilities!
Just completed these -
notebooks! every single one is different and unique....
they make me very happy :) *psst... these have already been sold, but do drop me an email at jacqvic[at]gmail[dot]com if you would like to order one for xmas!
a quick LO done for my LSS - G and her cloud..... she's really very funny with her little comfort bu bu. It's her 'daughter', one of 10 no less! and she brings her (sometimes him) everywhere she goes. When she's feeling upset, she will seek her bolster for comfort. We asked her - why do you always have to have bu bu with you? Her answer - becos then i have something to hug! Straightforward and simple - why can't life be as uncomplicated as that!
In LOVE with these HS glossy accents. They are the perfect size to brighten up a page, and o! so affordable too. :)
A tiny card....
Something that uses up all the scraps!
This is another notebook. Slightly bigger at 8x6" :)

Thanks for dropping by!

[interior architect vs interior designer]

Sometimes i have to explain the difference (interior designers - please don't shoot me down! it's a totally honest and 'my point of view' post!) The 1st one is a more holistic view of the interior space. It involves looking at how the space is used daily, there is quite a lot of space planning, often, there are spatial gymnastics that also involve the externals of the space (ie - roof, exterior walls, courtyards etc). Interior design on the other hand is more stylistic. It's about choosing the right type of wallpaper, just the right furniture, it's about constructing an inner lining to an already made external shell. We tend towards making interior architecture instead of interior design, i guess it goes with the training and territory of being an architect. As such, the following completed photos - might not seem 'complete' to many people. However, it does present in it's most raw form the completed space, vastly different from the original, and this is not just due to repainting or choosing the right furniture and lighting! :)
Here goes:
Come on in! Entrance hallway with builtin shoe cabinets
Full double volume loft space, 'art pieces', mezzanine space and a set of baywindows.
Brand new kitchen
Bathroom with built in cabinetry works in maple
Walk in wardrobe
Stairs leading up to the mezzanineG couldn't resist climbing up of course! :)

Thanks for visiting!!

[why do i need you? *warning - many pix*]

I know i don't really talk about my work on this blog. Initially, this blog was meant to be something reserved for my crafting work and also about my days with the girls. However, now that work has creeped into a large part of our lives, the whole work / life combination is no longer a distinct separation anymore. i thought it might be fun to introduce this aspect into the blog. In a way, it is an attempt of trying to find myself within our practice's work. It also gives a more personal explanation to that often 'mystical' aspect of an architect's life.
Lots of people usually ask us this question - why do i need a designer? Shortsightedly, most people often feel that the money that is spent on the design fee is better spent on more expensive furniture, fittings or as part of the construction budget. It is a bit like doing without a make up artist for your wedding in order to buy a lot more cosmetics. In actual fact, the work that we do often adds much more intangible value to the house and of course, creates a work that is much more customised to the owner's needs and wants. Many people who decided not to have a designer have then gone on to manage their own contractors, but realising in the end that it is all about spiralling costs, compounded delays, unforeseeable design mistakes.
We have been fortunate to have a great client that really believed in us, and trusted wholeheartedly the design and fitting out of her 1st apartment, which we completed about 5 yrs ago. This same client has since moved on and bought another apartment, coincidentally, just next door to the previous apartment. We did a complete overhaul, and this is the work in progress pictures :
the original condition of the walk up apartment - 1300 sqft of very dark spaces, this is already slightly more open as the walls have been demolished.
looking at the view through the back - many overlooking issues with the neighbor's unit, and external too.
the main space - low ceilings, not much light, pretty miserable space
a picture of the nondescript externallooking into the dark stairwell.
1st we opened up the ceiling, revealing really wonderful original condition red bricks, a high pitched ceiling and enough height for an upper mezzanine space!to deal with the dark interiors, we placed skylights which immediately brightened up the whole space.
Joinery work was bespoke to the owner's storage requirements, these series of elements were conceived to be a series of 'art pieces' that ran through the entire length of the apartment.laying the timber floors. As the existing flooring was not the most ideal, the cheapest and quickest solution was to add a layer of bonding chemical and just lay the new timber floor above the existing tiles.
More joinery work, taking advantage of the high ceilings to add in as much storage as possible.
Looking in the arrival hallway.
the kitchen was fully customised, with larders, wire baskets, even a movable wine/drinks servery - all in the right place!a hint of things to come
stairs up to the mezzanine
sneak preview of the finished upstairs spaceYay! We're done! :) Stay tuned for the next post on the completed apartment! :)

[action packed]

I usually dun buy things on impulse (okay, maybe that's not true... lol) but when i saw these on the MM site, i just had to get them! So, what am i talking about? It's a pack of 5 actions which load into Photoshop. I tried them out with some recent pics, here's the result -
antique
antique
sunkissed
urban cross
urban cross
urban cool - i think this is my favorite action of all
and here's one 'normal' one just to compare.

Other stuff -
A fun little project that i initially wanted to carry out with G. It's basically a design your own crocs contest. The website is HERE, dateline was today!
I made this - a croc froc :P
my idea was inspired by how people would use sandals / slippers etc as seating or pillows at a beach picnic. my croc 'froc' is actually made of 2 elements - the croc slipper itself, and an addon pillow (i even stuffed them with lavender!)
this is the top view of the 2 elements - the red really reminds me of xmas! :) hence the glitter beads.
this is how the croc + froc looks like! :) perfect for seating on, sleeping on, or just cuddling :)

O! you have to check out this site - which i've just been told i've been accepted into the DT! :) YAY..... here's the SITE - and you can see my entry there too.... check back often, there's lots of inspiration coming up i'm sure!

[birthday blessings]

Today we celebrated K's 1st birthday. It's also my birthday :) As the birth of G and subsequently K marks my entry into the 30s, by default that makes my 30s life-changing-ly incomparable to my 20s. As i approach the mid 30s, i look back in wonder at how the days and months just fly by. By and large, i'm a truly happy person. I don't really regret anything that has passed, and i always optimistically (maybe too optimistically?) look forward to what a new day will bring. I get up every morning with a joy that i've a really happy family, great parents, wonderful husband, and totally fun and cool little girls. Via this blog, and through lots of online sites, i've also managed to 'know' so many nice people! So, it is with a lot of joy and gratitude that i would like to say - Thank you! - for being in my life, making everything worthwhile. :)
happy birthday little K! :) you're 1!!! (gosh, was it already 12 months since that 1st moment we met?)
